Bruno and I finally made it over to Babies-R-Us to fill out our baby registry. Wow, what a huge undertaking that was! For starters, the store is quite far from where we live so we knew that we weren't in a position to do it over a series of trips. It had to be done all in one day. Argh! Also, we had attempted this once before but I had a *minor* panic attack and we had to leave. It's very overwhelming, especially since neither Bruno nor myself have had much experience with babies. We really don't know the first thing about taking care of little one! I believe that the one thing that made this trip more successful than the first was my ocd-like preplanning. The first thing that I did was buy the Consumer Reports Guide to all things baby and then I made copious spreadsheets with the top three recommended products for each item. Did we look at the spreadsheets when we were in the store? No, but at least I was more familiar with everything and that helped a lot. When all was said and done we just picked out what we liked. We won't know exactly how that goes until the little boy is here but hopefully we didn't select any baby killing products. That would be a tragedy.
In other news, the husband and I are excitedly anticipating an unexpected trip to California! We found out on Friday that we will be going and the news couldn't make me happier! As I've lamented on this site (on more than one occasion) it is really hard to be away from your family during a time like this (read: pregnancy). So, imagine my surprise when we were given the opportunity to fly out there before this month is over!!! And to make things even more exciting, we're going because Bruno's amazingly generous parents are giving us a car, which means that we will be DRIVING back to Michigan. A CROSS COUNTRY ROAD TRIP! IN A NEW (TO US) CAR! ONE WITH AIR CONDITIONING! Yeah, I'm over the moon about this whole thing! We'll only be in California for 3 1/2 days, but it's better than nothing. God, how I miss our families!
So that's what's going on in my world right now. I've been really tired lately and I suspect that it's pregnancy related. The little baby is getting bigger and kicking all of the damn time now. He's strong and especially likes using my bladder as a punching bag. Fun! When he kicks now you can see my belly jump and the baby is beginning to respond to Bruno's voice. This is a new thing that only started a few days ago. Bruno will get really close to my stomach and say the baby's name and the baby will kick. What a trip! It could just be a coincidence in timing, but I'm not so sure. I'm just happy that Bruno is bonding with the baby. Sometimes I feel really bad that I get to have this amazing experience with the baby inside of me and Bruno will never know how that feels. It actually makes me tear up to think that I get to bond with the baby in way that Bruno just can't. It doesn't seem fair, but then again, Bruno only has to hold my hand and wipe my brow while I push this elephant out of a straw. Perhaps I should focus on that thought instead of the injustices of fathers-to-be.
Well, that's about it for now. To sum up, life is good and I'm happy and healthy and the baby will be arriving very soon now. I'm entering my third trimester next week!
