I've read in my various pregnancy books that the second trimester can be the beginning of the absent-minded phase. I knew that this would be right around the corner, which is why I should have been more prepared when it actually hit me. In my defense, I'm overwhelmed with chores and tasks right now that all need to be completed before Wednesday afternoon, so even if I wasn't pregnant I would probably be a little out of it. But add in those powerful pregnancy hormones and I should probably have my driver’s license taken away from me!
On Saturday Bruno and I decided to head over to The Fly Trap (one of my favorite restaurants) for dinner but when we got there we realized that they had changed their hours and were no longer open for dinner on weekends. Huh?!? Doesn't seem like a great idea for business but who am I to tell them how to run their place? Anyhow, I was barely coherent because we had been running errands all day. We trekked back to the car (with me driving) and tried to figure out plan B. Our car was parked on one of the busiest roads in Michigan so I was really excited to find that if I pulled out RIGHT NOW then I would have no problem crossing over the 5 lanes of traffic to position myself where I needed to be. So, I turned the car on, hit the gas and took off.
About a mile later we became aware of a burning smell but assumed that it was coming from another car. My temperature gage was normal so we weren't burning oil or anything. But the smell was getting worse. And worse.
About 3 miles later a guy in a huge SUV makes the international sign for "roll down your window" to Bruno. Once our window was down the guy says (in a highly serious tone), "Your rear tire appears to be on fire." Oh crap.....
By now you may have guessed what I had done. Or rather, what I had failed to do which was take off the emergency brake before driving. I had driven nearly 4 miles (up and down a huge hill!) with the frickin emergency brake on! When I pulled over to look at the tire my brakes barely worked. And we just got these brakes installed a few months ago! I feel like the dumbest person in the world! That's a costly mistake my friends...
Holy crust!!! I cant believe that. Man, I just had a tire blow on me on the interstate this past weekend and man it was scary but on fire??? GEEZ!!! I am really glad you are ok and it didnt do more damage to the car!
