To all of you naysayers out there, I have finally found an awesome use for the buttons! I'm kind of paranoid about posting my idea for all of the world to read (and steal) but let me just say, it is very very good. I spent all of last night hunched over the dining room table creating my little treasures. Of course, that means that I couldn't sleep last night because I had visions of packaging dancing in my head. When all was said and done, I had 100 pieces laid out and they are now waiting patiently to be cleaned and then assembled. It's going to be a couple of weeks before they are all done and I have a few supplies that need to be purchased before they will be ready for sale. Does anyone know where I can buy sheets of 1/4 inch clear plastic? In Michigan??? And then have it cut to my specifications??
Anyhow, this all started yesterday because I was sitting on the couch, surfing the internet and trying desperately to avoid working. I was feeling kind of down because I waste so much time when I'm trying to avoid work. But that time isn't productive. It's just filler until I have to get to work. So I thought about it and decided that, as long as I wasn't going to be doing anything better, I might as well work on getting out of this job that I dislike so much. I am a woman of action (at least for today) and I'm taking my future by the reigns! So I pulled out my trusty buttons and started "playing". By the time that Bruno got home I had many of my little treasures covering the table and his reaction of excitement was very reassuring! He even mixed us up some martinis because he supports me like that! Funny how, with just the right amount of gin and olive juice flowing through my veins, I was able to pull together much better pieces. I was able to relax enough to hone in on what I liked and what I didn't. I'm very excited about this project. I know that it won't support us, not even close actually, but how exciting that I might actually have a product that people want to buy???
So, now I'm exploring my options on where to sell these. I've looked at a website that sells all handmade items and I like the idea but I worry about the fact that it might just be a forum for people to take your idea and run with it on their own. I realize that that could happen anywhere, but this is a concentrated area of crafters, so the possibility of it happening there might be higher. I could be very wrong though, so I'm still looking into it. My sister-in-law has offered me a store on her website, which is probably where I'm going to first try my hand at selling. Of course, the ultimate goal is to get my stuff in actual stores. And then to have my very own real store! Mark my words, one day that will be a reality! Maybe in 10 years, but I am going to make it happen one way or the other.
By the way, if you are feeling the need to look at pretty aprons (and really, when aren't you?) head on over to Tie-One-On and check out the flicker gallery. My apron is up along with 59 others. The theme was to use clothes already in your closet and I'm really impressed with what some people came up with. Of course, my favorites are the one's that look vintage or actually used vintage clothing. I'm already thinking about what I'm going to do for the next apron challenge....
And lastly, thanks for all of the well wishes regarding my trick back. Bruno called me from school today to inform me that he would be giving me a backrub tonight. He said that he's afraid of what Omega Mom will do if he doesn't! So Omega Mom, you are my hero for today! Keep up the good work!
Okay, first of all, Bruno being afraid of OmegaMom made me laugh so hard. She's a peach, Bruno, don't be afraid. Second of all, oh oh oh, do you need plastic bags? Like the one you sent me the beads in? (Which are gorgeous, by the way, and I owe you an e-mail...) Because we just scored a huge box full of them. Plastic bags, I mean.
Also, I have another idea for the buttons, but I'll send that in e-mail. Now I'm just dying to know what you're up to...

I'll ask DTE about the sheets of plastic. If anyone would know where to get it, it would be him!
