I've started two different posts this morning but I can't seem to finish either of them. They were both heavy and I don't feel like I have enough direction (or a conclusion) for either so I'm going to think about them more. So, I figured that I would catch you up on a few, less heavy, things going on in my life.
First, I passed my glucose test. I'm not diabetic and the baby is doing just grand! I freaked out for no good reason (well, failing the first test was scary...) and everything has turned out to be just fine. My OBGYN appointments are now every two weeks instead of once a month, which means that we are getting very close to the finishing line. That is both terrifying and so terribly exciting that I don't know whether to cry tears of joy or tears of panic. A little of both I would think.
Because the baby will be arriving in approximately 9 weeks (NINE WEEKS!), Bruno and I have really had to step up on the little guy's room. It only seems fair that he have things like a crib and a dresser and maybe even some diapers. So, we finally went out and purchased his first piece of furniture:

We originally went to Ikea to buy just a crib, but when we got there and saw how fabulous the entire matching set was, we decided to purchase the whole damn thing. Unfortunately, the crib wouldn't fit in our car and we didn't have the money to purchase the whole set all at once so all that we came home with was the dresser/dressing table pictured above. Our fabulous friend Chris is going to lend us his truck so that we can get the other pieces in the coming weeks. (A funny aside: Chris, while ALWAYS willing to go out of his way to help a friend in need, REFUSES to set foot in Ikea. I have to admire that kind of hatred for the corporate man. It's an odd thing to boycott, but hey- A man's gotta have a cause!)
Anyhow, for whatever reason, they don't have the entire nursery set pictured on the Ikea website so all you get to see is the crib:
Here's the rest of the set:

There is also a matching piece that converts the dresser/dressing table to a dresser/book shelf and a really fabulous chest for toys or other various sundries. This kid has way better furniture than we do! Aside from our Crate & Barrel couch, just about every single other item of furniture in our house came from Target or is second hand.
So, we still have a billion other things that need to be purchased. Since we live across the country from our friends and family we won't be having a baby shower, which makes me sad but, I've had nearly 8 months to come to terms with that. But, what it means is that a lot of the little things that you tend to rack up at these events will be our responsibility to now secure. I don't want you to think that I'm selfish here. I'm not, I swear! It's ok that we have to buy these things ourselves. The thing that freaks me out is that it all seems so overwhelming! At baby showers, people tend to give you things that they think you will need. That's the kind of help that I really wish we had. You know, other people telling us what we'll need? So, Bruno and I have turned to the library and its plethora of books to put together a list of must haves. I'm now in the process of weeding out all of the frivolous items so that we have a barebones list of "absolutely can't live withouts". Then we're going shopping.
A few good things on the shopping front: First, Bruno and I have been trying to figure out what to do with our Amex points for at least a year now and we've FINALLY found a good use! Because we've financed both our wedding and our cross-country move using credit we have more points than Carter's got pills. (Did anyone out there get that reference???) So, we've been able to cash them in for several Babies-R-Us gift cards. I didn't even know that you could do that. Now we're just hoping that the gift cards get here before the baby does!
The other amazing thing is that Bruno's parents have been sooooooooo generous that they will barely give us a chance to freak out about how we'll manage this all. This is their first grandchild (Uhum, Mr. and Mrs. Wolf... Your next!) and they are so excited that they can't stop buying things for him. To be honest, it's not Bruno's dad whose spending his leisure time strolling through the aisles of baby boutiques. That thought makes me laugh! But Bruno's mother is having such a grand time shopping for Baby that this kid isn't going to want for much. What a relief that has been! And a wonderful gift!
So, hopefully in the next few weeks this little guy's room will come together and we'll have nothing left to do but wait for him to get here. Holy cow...
You are not selfish at all. I cant imagine not having a baby shower. Hey family you better give me stuff!!! LOL! No really I am having one with this guy too. As far as furniture you are so far ahead of me but I know we dont need it yet since he wont use it for quite a while. His room is upstairs and I wont be putting him up there till he is atleast 6-8 months old. He will just be in the bassinet or on our bed anyways.

Nice banner change! I hope your little man won't be so fussy! haha. Have you considered a "virtual shower"? We could even post pastel colored cupcakes for all your "guests" to enjoy! LOL =D
